Help Remove Invasive Vines from a Local Nature Preserve!

The next vine cutting event is this Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 11 AM at the Beaver Dam Preserve Upper Fields.

You will be able to drive onto the site through the farm gate (on the west side of the road diagonally opposite the main entrance to the Harvey School) located about 100 feet to the south of a mailbox at 261 Jay Street (Rt 22). Look for the “vine cutters” sign with an arrow pointing into the field.

The town requires that you sign a waiver of liability (just one time covers you for the entire season), and if someone under 18 plans to attend, they must have their parent’s or guardian’s written permission. Here’s a link to the waiver. We’ll have paper copies if you forget.

If you have your own tools (hand clippers, loppers, and small tree saws) please bring them.  If you don’t have tools, we have tools to share. Wear sturdy boots or shoes, and wear gloves.  Bring water. And always layer your clothing, as you can heat up pretty quickly when working. I recommend eye protection, as a branch can snap back at you.
