  • Outdoor dining is expected to begin next week as we enter phase 2 for reopening. Please see the State guidance for eating establishments here.
  • County pools will open Friday, June 26 at Saxon Woods and Sprain Ridge – similar to our reopening of County golf courses, we will be opening our pools in sequence to determine ideal processes and internal procedures.
    • Playland’s pool will not reopen per current guidance regarding pools in proximity to beaches, which was recently circulated by New York State.
    • Croton Point Park and Playland beach will reopen on June 26; Playland beach will adopt its typical summer schedule, remaining open from Tuesday to Sunday.
  • Westchester County is closing Croton Gorge Park this weekend in light of continued issues enforcing parking regulations and social distancing at the park.
  • Westchester County’s Bicycle Sunday is extended through the summer in response to popular community request and our successes in adopting and enforcing social distancing during previous Bicycle Sunday outings.
  • The U.S. Senate passed the House PPP Reform bill last night. This new measure extends the program to December 31 – but only for the purpose of increasing the time that existing borrowers can use the loan. Additional PPP lending is not reauthorized beyond June 30. Efforts will continue to address this discrepancy, but time pressure necessitated rapid passage to allow those businesses receiving loans the full use of those funds. Additional details are below:
    • The loan period eligible for forgiveness has been extended from 8 weeks to 24 weeks
    • The 25% cap on non-payroll expenses eligible for forgiveness has been increased to 40%, meaning more loan money can be used for rent, mortgage and utilities payments
    • The loan repayment period has been increased from two years to five years, allowing better repayment terms for any loans not fully forgiven
    • Allows payroll tax deferment for PPP recipients
    • Extends the June 30 rehiring deadline to the end of the year
  • Westchester County announced its Reopening Task Force. This group will help guide the County through the re-opening process to make sure that local businesses can reopen effectively, safely, and to “advance the interests of local businesses in a post-coronavirus economy. For more information, please click here
  • New York State has provided new guidance; dentists are now allowed to reopen. This guidance, accurate as of May 31, is available here
  • Westchester County is hosting a digital Pride Flag Raising on Sunday, June 7, from 11:30am to 12:30pm.
  • New York State has issued new guidelines pertinent to phase 2 of reopening. Barbershops and nail salons will be permitted to reopen, while malls will be barred from reopening. Stores inside malls which possess outward-facing-entrances will be permitted to reopen. Westchester County may enter phase 2 on June 9 if we continue to meet NYS’s metrics.
  • All businesses must file an affirmation with New York State – businesses reopening as part of phase one may currently complete this document here: https://forward.ny.gov/
  • “The Westchester County Association (WCA) recently launched a Post-Pandemic Working Group (PPWG), which is a select committee of business, non-profit, and academic leaders who are working collaboratively to foster economic recovery and prosperity in the region — and they want to know your thoughts on this very important subject! Please share your thoughts on a few questions in this quick survey, which should take less than two minutes to complete. Click here to begin.”
  • New York State is circulating documents to promote the contact tracing initiative. These documents advise residents on what to expect from contact tracers, and how to distinguish and avoid fraudulent callers. documents in English and Spanish can be accessed here:

  1. Antibody testing continues at Westchester Medical Center; over 4,000 emergency first responders and county and municipal employees have so far been tested. The testing site is now available for members of the public.
  2. CE Latimer cautioned municipalities against criminalizing noncompliance to social distancing. Although violations are thoughtless and inconsiderate, the hope is that all of us will once again return to these behaviors—making the best response (to a violation) one which facilitates a keen understanding of why social distancing is so necessary.
  3. Westchester County has created a memorial for victims of COVID-19 at Lenoir Nature Preserve. More information on the purple Ribbons of Remembrance are available here: https://www.westchestergov.com/home/all-press-releases/8444-westchester-county-remembers-over-1-100-residents-who-have-died-of-covid-19
  4. Contact Tracing  Westchester County is piloting one of New York State’s first contact tracing initiatives. Individuals interested in working as contact tracers can apply at this link: https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/get-involved-how-you-can-help
