Read More – Community Solar

As a leader in climate action in Westchester County and New York State, we’re proud to announce that Bedford has enrolled its eligible electricity accounts in community solar through nonprofit, Sustainable Westchester. We’re pleased to be the first municipality in Westchester, and one of first in the state, to participate in this clean energy opportunity that will save the Town up to 10% on electricity bills while spurring development of new solar farms.

The Town is doing everything possible to combat the climate crisis and is considering adopting ambitious climate action goals, which include 85% renewable energy supply by 2030. The community expects the Town to act with a sense of urgency.  To move us ahead, we are taking decisive action— first to enter into a community solar agreement for our smaller accounts and then to be an anchor participant for one of the largest solar farms in the state, located in Tioga County, New York.

Residents Can Join the Town’s Community Solar Initiative

We urge residents, faith organizations and small businesses in the Town to join us and take advantage of Community Solar for guaranteed savings on their electricity bills while promoting renewable energy. Subscribers can enroll on the same terms as the Town, locking in the opportunity to save up to 10% on electricity bills for up to twenty years.  Bedford 2020 is also working with Sustainable Westchester to promote community solar to residents and to help the community further reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the region.

Energy produced by the solar farm is sent to the electric grid and subscribers receive a credit on their electricity bill, representing the value of their share of the energy produced. Subscribers then pay the owner of the solar farm a discounted amount for that solar credit. Enrolling is easy and takes about 7 minutes. Have your utility information and information to set up automated payment for the solar credits handy. Visit www.sustainablewestchester.org/solar to learn more and enroll.
