Bedford Police Department launches Body Worn Camera Program
As of October 17 , 2022 body worn cameras will be deployed by all Bedford Police Department uniformed police officers. These new cameras manufactured by Axon will be used to record all enforcement related police activity where there is public interaction. The camera can be manually operated by the officer, but it also uses wireless technology to automatically activate the camera to record any time an officer removes their weapon from the holster, activates an electronic control device (sometimes referred to as a Taser), or activates the emergency lights on their patrol car. “Having these cameras will encourage respectful interactions between our Police Officers and the public as well as give our residents and visitors confidence that our department will continue to provide professional and transparent service to our community” said Bedford Police Chief Melvin Padilla.
