The Town of Bedford is proud to participate in the National Wildlife Federation’s Mayor’s Monarch Pledge to support Monarch butterflies and other pollinators, which are experiencing significant declines.
Home grown from Bedford 2030's Land Use Task Force, Healthy Yards is now an organization with a national following. Locally, they focus on Pollinator Pathways to reduce the use of toxins and increase native species in our landscapes.
This organization began in Bedford to encourage residents to start mulching leaves on their lawns and stop the unnecessary emissions of blowers and mowers to protect our air, land, pollinators, birds, and ourselves.
Due to their loud noise, high level of air pollution with associated health impacts, and damage to the environment, Bedford has joined many other municipalities around the nation transitioning away from gas powered leaf blower use. The seasonal ban prevents their use except during leaf and clean up seasons.
